I met Madison years ago through my brother and sister-in-law when they were newly dating. They were all part of a young professionals group at their church in Arlington County, VA.  First my brother and sister-in-law got married (and I photographed their wedding), then another two of the group got together and were wed shortly after them, and then the sister of that groom got engaged and I photographed her wedding! It was at that wedding that Madison said to me, “If I ever get married, you’re photographing my wedding!”  Four years later, she set me an email!

I met Steve for the first time when we all got together – with their dog, Lily – for their engagement session during the fall of 2021. The world was still just dipping its toes back into “normal” after 18 months with COVID-19 and they were excited that they would be able to have a wedding celebration with their friends and family after so many had theirs canceled or postponed or altered. We decided to take their engagement photos at the same place that they would be getting married, Hendry House in Arlington County, which was a great trial run for the big day. Despite using the same location, the photos look completely different as the engagement session showcased Virginia’s gorgeous fall foliage and the wedding day took place at the peak of spring bloom.

Madison & Steve’s April wedding was a lovely outdoor ceremony in perfect spring weather and had the added bonus for me of being in the company of my brother’s family, including my niece and nephew, and several of their church friends that I’ve come to know over the years. It was so sweet to see Madison so happy and in love and, as always, I was so honored to be asked to capture their special day.
