I met this sweet family through my brother, Jeff, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth, as they all attend church together in Arlington County, VA. Matt and Alison had been over at Jeff and Elizabeth’s house for a small group meeting and took notice of their family photos on the walls. They asked who their photographer was because they were looking to get some nice photos done with their 5-month-old for their Christmas card.
Elizabeth laughed and said she had the good fortune to have a professional photographer for a sister-in-law! And then – God love her! – she went in to marketing mode and connected them with me and we quickly made plans for a shoot! Fortunately, I was already going to be up there a weekend in November to second shoot a wedding, so everything lined up perfectly.
Not having done much shooting up there, I started researching online and then scoped some places out the day before our Saturday morning shoot. I found this lovely little park in Fairfax County, close to Alexandria where they live, that looked like it would do well for some family photos. I then quickly scrambled to get a Fairfax County parks photo permit and get on the schedule at the park. The lovely lady at the park helped me out big time as I called at the last minute on a Friday!
I met Matt and Alison and Baby Ezra at the park and of course if was ridiculously cold and windy despite the sun! However, before we could even get started, Ezra needed a diaper change… that turned into needing a wardrobe change! Fortunately, outfit #2 worked out just fine.
We had to work quick in the cold and throw coats and blankets on in between shots, but we accomplished the mission and even managed a couple shots with Ezra smiling!
